Leaders of the United Methodist Church announced on Friday a plan to split over differences on same-sex marriage and the inclusion of gay clergy. According to the New York Times, the new formed “Traditionalist Methodist” would not allow for gay marriage ceremonies or gay clergy members. Since late Fall, the UMC has differed drastically with this issue, and it appears that a split of the denomination was inevitable.
Across the globe, the UMC touts a congregation over 13 million, with half of its membership within the United States. During their annual conference in May, church delegates in St. Louis voted 438-384 to ban gay marriage and the inclusion of gay clergy. Although most of the American UMC delegations voted against the “Traditionalist” platform, they were ultimately outvoted by opposition from within the country, as well as commissions from both the continent of Africa and the Philippines.
Over the last decade, church membership has steadily declined, as many millennials and their families have parted ways with traditional family values and religious practice. Also to blame is the rise of American Liberalism, and the sins of self-importance and vanity that have plagued our nation and misguided our people into thinking that “they,” not God, is in control. The UMC is not the only denomination that has suffered due to these unfortunate circumstances. The Catholic, Lutheran, and various other religious faiths have either seen drastic reductions in enrollment or have seen their fleeing members turn to other, non-denominational services that cater to their sense of “SELF.”
For years the Catholic Church has suffered severely due to their handling of sexual abuse and financial illegalities. More recently, however, they and various other Protestant faiths have been forced to take a position on American indecencies regarding the LBGTQ movement. For over the last decade, many in our society have warped into thinking that abortion, murder, gay and transsexual lifestyles are OK, and must be accepted by both their fellow man and their God. While the Bible preaches universal love for fellow man, it demands both obedience and the turning of sin to receive eternal salvation.
And thus, today’s America has come to a crossroads. One direction, full steam ahead, “I can do anything, and others must accept it; if not, they are bigots!” The other path, those Americans traditionalists who firmly believe in the Word of God, practice its teachings, and seek to live a life described and demanded by our Lord and Savior. Today, American Liberalism has attacked traditional values, and try to replace it with a self-absorbed, Sin City, who believe a life of unhealthy and un-Godly sexuality is acceptable.
The UMC response to split as a result of “accepting” homosexual marriage and gay clergy is a prime example of just how far the Left is willing to go to “redefine” their vision for a “New America.” It cannot be denied the direct relationship between the rise in American crime and immorality, and the decrease in church involvement. It is unfortunate to say that a lot of Americans are OK with living a life of hypocrisy. None more so than wishing for and accepting church leaders who live daily in sin and who refuse to repent. In all of this, it is warming to know that American Traditionalism still lives strong. Kudos to the UMC for staying strong and standing with God!
