Charlotte, N.C. – New unemployment claims have risen to 853,000 as more states across the United States are preparing for another wave of shutdowns.
Economists had pegged unemployment claim numbers to be around 724,000, Breitbart reported. The week before that economists had estimated jobless claims to be around roughly 712,000. This was after a decline in claims, after weeks of rising claims.

As many states are seeing a resurgence in coronavirus cases, new restrictions and shutdown measures being implemented are causing many business owners to layoff more than half of their staff.
Earlier in the year, unemployment claims reached roughly 6.87 million for the week of March 27. Since then, as many states started re-opening and easing back on coronavirus restrictions, unemployment claims have remained fairly high, while also dropping down again.
Restaurants and retail businesses have been among those primarily affected by the coronavirus restrictions. Due to limits on capacity, social distancing, and rules on where you may or may not be allowed to be seated, many of these businesses have had to cut many costs by either laying employees off, or switching to online services or relying upon takeout business entirely.
