No one is all the way woke according to Anna Austin Ronan in a recent article over at Medium. Ronan suggests that the world is full of people that are not fully woke and that society must do better. It is an interesting viewpoint from the left which has notoriously been against anyone that is not “woke” enough.
Ronan used the examples of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr as examples to prove that some people who accomplish good things are not perfect. Imagine, someone is not perfectly woke that accomplished something approved by the left! Ronan clearly states in the article that no one can be given a free pass, but that it must be accepted that not everyone is perfect. So where do we draw the line?
These statements are puzzling coming from the left which has been pressing the no free pass concept for months. Just a few weeks ago, a holiday honoring Thomas Jefferson was voted out because he was proven to be a slave owner. The decision was celebrated by the “woke” left at the time as a great decision.
We also have the recent decision by Nike to pull the special Betsy Ross flag shoe after intervention by Colin Kaepernick. The “woke” left praised the decision as standing up against racism and slavery, even though the flag was flown by President Obama and there was no issues.
We’ve had numerous Civil War monuments torn down because they bring up thoughts of slavery and racism. These monuments are confederate monuments across the country and the fact that they are confederate monuments it is not “woke” to keep those.
The issue with this take from the “woke” left that no one is perfect, is anyone who is against their agenda will be addressed. For example, we’re willing to tear down historical figures such as Jefferson, Washington and Lee for their slavery past, but not willing to address MLK, JFK or others. Seems hypocritical right?
This type of hypocrisy is what we have come to expect from the “woke” crowd. The left will argue against anything President Trump does because he is against the special interest pandering, even though he may do some good as Ronan suggests. The benefits of a great economy are not enough, because Trump is not “woke” enough for the special interests.
So now you can rest assured that it’s okay if you are not “woke enough” because no one is perfect. The problem is not that you become “woke,” but you must willing to get out of the left’s way. Taking a stand against special interest pandering will always be called out by the “woke” crowd, even if you do something great.
