Washington, D.C. – On Monday, President Trump seemed to take charge when he was questioned about opening the US economy. His statements came to Twitter as news reports circulate that the governors are responsible for the plan. He wanted to make sure everyone knew how he felt.

With his statements, President Trump takes charge on what is expected to be a battle to open the US economy. Governors around the country have continued to extend stay orders. Texas Governor Abbott indicated that his state is working on a plan to open that will be released this week. Other governors have stepped up as well.
NY Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that six governors in the northeast would work together on a plan to reopen their states. The statements were made soon after Cuomo stated that he believed the worst was behind NY. His comments were:
I believe the worst is over if we continue to be smart.
While Trump has optimism to get the economy going again in May, many others are less optimistic. In recent comments, the Federal Reserve Bank President said that Americans should prepare for these rolling shutdowns. He believes that the shut downs could be rolling over the next 18 months. This would be a huge blow to the economy and President Trump’s reelection bid.
While many have doubted his actions, President Trump is making a great decision developing a plan to open the economy. While each state will be different, America needs a plan. A plan to get the attention focused on the future, not the now. But that plan has to steer clear of political undertones.
According to Fox News, the President’s task force has some key members. The United States is only a couple weeks away from the distancing measures expiring and many are wondering what will happen. I expect many states will continue to extend their orders, but I expect President Trump to take a different route.
President Trump is focused on the economy and the US people. He wants to save lives and protect people, but also realizes that the US cannot continue like this. I fully expect him to take action to open the US economy in May. I also feel the American people want this.
Other media outlets, like The NY Times, will continue to harp on the death and destruction the virus will bring. The fact is, not one single person is promised any day. We are all susceptible to any of the hundreds of viruses and diseases in the world. Any day is a gift, but they don’t see it that way.
The task force is set and the goal is clear. Our country needs a plan to get back to normal. As we await more word on the antibody testing, preparing our economy for a return is the next logical step.
