Over the past few days, I have seen references to Trump fact checking in several articles. I recently wrote about one article who called Trump a failure and referenced his “false statements” as part of the article. Several outlets have cited the Washington Post fact checking page as the source for Trump fact checking.
Apparently, the Washington Post is a self proclaimed Trump fact checking experts. If this doesn’t bother you, it should. According to the site, Trump has made over 13,000 false claims in over 990 days in office. A quick look over the site shows that it is absolutely inaccurate.
First of all, you can sort the claims by subject. For example, the site allows the sorting to view supposed false claims about the Ukraine situation. The site claims that Trump’s claims about the Democrats investigation and the call with Ukraine are inaccurate. Yet, the Democrats have yet to produce evidence contrary to this in any part of the investigation.
On another claim regarding the economy, the site claims that Trump’s boasting of stock market gains since his election were false. In the statement, Trump referenced the gains immediately following his election. The site claims these are false claims due to the fact Trump wasn’t in office. Trump never claimed he was in office, simply it happened because of his election.
The media wants to cry foul every time Trump opens his mouth. They find any way possible to twist his words into what narrative they want. The simple fact remains that they continue to report fake news as real truth and fact. President Trump rightfully called them fake news.
Besides, who actually believed that the Washington Post was a qualified non-partisan fact checker? Almost every political article on their website attempts to attack Republicans and Trump. If we want to start fact checking, we should do this from a non-partisan independent group.
Everything has become so partisan in the main stream media it is impossible for them to do this without bias. If the media wants to use a fact checker, they should find someone besides the liberal Washington Post. In the end, much of the fact checking is left up to personal opinion. American’s cannot depend on the media to deliver anything without bias anymore. A qualified fact checker is needed and the media is not it.
