Little Rock, A.R. – During an exclusive interview yesterday with The Daily Caller’s Andrew Kerr, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) said it is not only fair but appropriate to question whether the Covid-19 pandemic originated in China. Senator Cotton has long criticized and held China solely responsible for the outbreak that has taken over the daily lives of everyone in the world and a purposeful inaction that has cost thousands of lives.
“The mainstream media are largely apologists for Chinese communists and they will accept Chinese communist propaganda. They immediately try to accuse anyone who raises these reasonable questions as conspiracy theorists that are accusing China of creating a biological weapon,” Cotton stated.
The junior senator from Arkansas was both the first and the loudest voice in Congress to sound the alarm about the pandemic. “While others slept, Senator Cotton was warning anyone who would listen that the coronavirus was coming for America,” John McCormack of the National Review said.
While the Senate impeachment trial was dominating the news cycle, Cotton sent a letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar encouraging the Trump administration to consider banning travel between China and the United States and warning that the Communist regime could be covering up how dangerous the disease really was.
Back in March, MSNBC’s Steve Benen said “The fact that Cotton repeatedly referred to COVID-19 as ‘the Wuhan coronavirus’ was not an accident. The GOP senator started floating a conspiracy theory about China and the virus last month, and many on the right have effectively tried to rebrand the virus as a way to blame China for the crisis.”
Politico has been on record as saying an escalating drumbeat against China is worrying some public health experts, who say the attempts to blame Beijing for the coronavirus outbreak could harm efforts to combat the spreading contagion, while winning praise from others. And it’s come amid conspiracy theories and counteraccusations from Chinese officials, some of whom are alleging the virus’s true origins lie outside China, in what U.S. officials say is a malicious effort to shift blame.
Although now heaping praise on the Trump administration’s handling of Covid-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) said it deliberately chose COVID-19 as the official name to avoid a harsh stigmatization.
In an attempt to quell what CNN’s Jim Acosta and others have deemed as racist and xenophobic rhetoric in the House, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus sent a letter to their colleagues in Congress urging them to “help us prevent hysteria, ignorant attacks and racist assaults that have been fueled by misinformation pertaining” to the coronavirus. The letter urged all members of Congress to share only “confirmed and verifiable information.”
Given the media’s propensity to report on and point fingers at anything but the actual origination of the virus, it’s not surprising they continue to carry water for the Chinese in an effort to paint the president as mishandling this pandemic and it’s drastic impact on our economy and our citizens.
Senator Cotton continues to sound the alarm despite the detractors in the MSM who moonlight as reporters. “The reason I have raised these questions from the very beginning is because China’s statements and their actions. After concealing the virus for many weeks in December and then minimizing its severity for most of January, they then peddle an origin story about the food market in Wuhan,” Cotton said.
For the media and others to continue calling anything and anyone who disagrees with them as conspiracy theorists and the like, their credibility continues to decline in the eyes of millions of Americans.
The media fails to understand that saying something is from China or is Chinese isn’t racist or xenophobic. We call things from different parts of the world from their origin or location all the time. Moreover, Chinese is a nationality. There are all kids of races and people of all different nationalities that live in China. In Wuhan. There are a multitude of viruses and diseases that are geographically named: Spanish influenza, West Nile, Zika, Ebola, Lyme disease, and German measles just to name some.
It’s terribly sad but unsurprising that many in the media, during a life-threatening pandemic, continue to speak on xenophobia, label dissention as “right-wing talking points,” conspiracy, and racism. Other countries, and definitely China, know that “wokeness” is our Achilles’ heel and they know they can control us with it. China knows, and the media continues to do their bidding, that any conversation in this country, no matter how serious, can be shut down instantly by somebody saying ‘racism!’
