There’s been several articles over the past few days that have discussed where the GOP goes after Trump. Obviously, the main stream media and the left are convinced that Trump is finished. But many Republicans are still convinced he will last through the 2024 election. So the left asks where does the party go after Trump, while the right also contemplates where they go.
One obvious name comes to mind as you think about 2024 and that is current Vice-President Mike Pence. Of the 4 names that came up in a recent survey, Pence had the support of about 40%. While he was certainly the leading candidate, this is far from the solid support that solidifies him as the top candidate, according to the MSM.
This level of support his higher than Joe Biden while he was VP, however. In a poll prior to the end of the Obama administration, Biden had 17% of support of Democrats. Clinton at the time had 46%. If you compare those numbers, that would clearly place him as the front runner. But lets look at the other 3 names that were mentioned.
The second in the list of potential candidates was non other than Donald Trump, Jr. A total of 29% of those surveyed would support Don Jr in a bid for the White House. Many have speculated that Don Jr would run for the congressional seat in NY. Others have speculated that he will run for the Presidency in 2024. Either way, it appears that a future in politics is likely for him.
Donald Trump, Jr was not the only Trump mentioned. Ivanka Trump was mentioned as a possible candidate, garnering 16% of support. Ivanka has not been a stranger to many political discussions in the last 3 years. While I understand the suspicion about her running for office, I doubt this move for her. Ivanka has made a lot of strides in supporting her father and in supporting various initiatives. While she may run for office, I doubt it’s the presidency.
The third place among support was Nikki Haley, the former UN ambassador. While most articles leave this name as last, I think this is the dark horse in the race that must be considered. Nikki Haley is very popular among Republicans. She has a strong political background and has been an advocate for Trump. If Trump weathers through impeachment and wins reelection, Haley will most likely be the strongest candidate to face off against Pence.
Obviously, there’s only 4 names mentioned here. There are many other strong names that could be considered as President and 2024 is still several years away. There are always new candidates that seem to present between election cycles. Aside from these 4 candidates, who would you like to see as a candidate in 2024?
