Simply turn on the news and you will hear the same argument, we must allow free healthcare, free tuition and spend trillions on the Green New Deal to save society. It’s been the staple of the radical left for several years, but none of these government takeovers have worked before. You can simply look back at many of the big government programs that were implemented during FDR’s administration. Most of them are burdens, rather than helps.
The left is arguing for free things, but these free things aren’t free. Someone somewhere has to pay for them. But the left continues to argue that free things and the Green New Deal will save society. We do not have to look very far into our past to see that this is nothing short of a lie. Specifically, take a look at student loan debt. Government takeover created the crisis to begin with.
So back in the Obama administration, he decided to eliminate the federal guaranteed loan program. In essence, he cut out the middle man allowing the federal government to get into the student loan business. In just a few short years, over $1 trillion was owed to the federal government. Why? There is nowhere else to go for low interest student loans. The government took over the program.
Government involvement started long before this time period. We all hear the left’s arguments that tuition has increased exponentially since the 60’s and 70’s. Which just happens to be about the time the government got involved in the student loan business under the FFEL program. The federal government subsidized the loans, providing less risk to banks to encourage the lending.
Now, private capital is left out of the student loan market and taxpayers are on the hook for it. With very little return I might ad. But even more, delinquency and defaults are at all time highs. This in just about 10 short years of the federal government taking over the student loan programs and taking private capital and industry out of it. Do you see the issue? They’ve failed in Social Security and they’ve failed in the student loan business.
Democrats, specifically socialist Democrats, want you to believe that the federal government is better positioned to manage healthcare. Yes, they want to take over arguably the most costly system in our country. But we continue to read articles over and over that talk about Social Security and Medicare facing insolvency. Hospitals would not be able to survive this move to Medicare for All. They would lose millions, as they already are reimbursed rates lower than their costs. How can we expect they will provide care while losing money?
We can’t. It’s impossible to stay in business when you are losing money. Don’t believe me? Here’s a list of companies that shut down or closed operations in locations because of losing money. Whether for profit or non-profit, healthcare facilities exist and thrive on money. Take away that ability to make money and they very well may close. Now you may argue that this has already been fact checked and proven wrong. You can make that assumption, but no one knows what will happen until it’s actually here. Which is how the Democrats operate. We must pass it to know what’s in it right?
Then along side the healthcare proposals, there’s the Green New Deal. The left argues that California is burning, Florida is sinking and other areas are facing climate change crisis. Never mind the fact that these fires in Florida were set by individuals, not from the climate. We have also discussed previously that the climate goes in cycles, with scientists at NASA predicting we are entering another cold cycle. In reality, the Green New Deal is probably just an assault of plane travel and cow farts. The policy is nothing short of nonsense and will do nothing but bankrupt us.
I’ve said previously, I’m all for working for a cleaner and better environment. I think that recycling is important. I think that we could do a lot to prevent harmful chemicals and such being released into the environment. But I do see the importance of having the ability to get on an airplane to travel to a nice tropical climate, or have a nice big steak once in a while from a farting cow.
In the end, not one single government program has ever saved society. It may have provided some benefit to society, but those benefits did not come without burdens. One look at the federal budget will show you that. Healthcare needs help. College tuition needs help. But neither of them need help from the federal government.
