On Wednesday, YouTube demonetized several content creators in response to complaints by Vox’s Carlos Maza that he was being mocked for his identity. Maza had filed multiple complaints on Steven Crowder, even splicing together multiple videos to make a montage of hurtful speech. This comes one day after YouTube spoke out and said that Crowder did not violate company policy.
I wrote earlier in the week about how the left is working to limit the definition of free speech to only speech that they agree with. This is another prime example where a small percentage of the population is forcing it’s will against the rights of others to have free speech. The censoring of individuals is coming at the expense of those on the right, rather than the left.
PragerU shared that many of their videos featuring conservative personalities had been blocked.
While I may not agree with the content of Crowder, if YouTube is a platform, he should be allowed to speak that which he wishes. Censoring his statements is now a violation of his rights as part of a platform. Especially when it’s caused by someone who has openly promoted ANTIFA and violence to conservatives.
Today, the Vox editor-in-chief sent an open letter to YouTube. The letter references hate speech, personal attacks, and speaking about how YouTube is a platform and should not allow either. So when will Vox ask for YouTube to pull Maza’s content for the hate speech and violence towards conservatives.
They will not ask for this, because the left is never wrong. If you disagree, it’s simply hate speech and cannot be allowed. YouTube and many other social media companies are no longer platforms. The censorship that is occurring takes it beyond a platform and into the publisher arena. The tweet shared by Dana Loesch certainly shows it’s not just YouTube.
It’s time to support your conservative outlets through subscriptions and donations. It’s time to stop supporting these leftist organizations who wish to silence conservative views.
