Over the last several years, we have all witnessed the left slowly dismantle historical markers, symbols and anything resembling this exceptional nation we call America. Just as recently as this week, we witnessed Nike and Colin Kaepernick move to label the 13 star flag we call the Betsy Ross flag as a symbol of slavery.
This Betsy Ross flag was designed to symbolize a lot of things, not a single one of those included slavery. Thirteen stripes to represent the thirteen colonies, 13 stars to represent 13 states, stars on a blue field to represent a new constellation, red for hardness and valor, white for purity and innocence, blue for justice, perseverance and vigilance. It was a symbol of freedom from the oppression of British rule.
There is no symbol in America safe from these attempts from the left, yet these symbols still stand despite the left. There has been a lot of focus on flags, but when will other symbols be attacked by these anti-American leftists?
Maybe the Statue of Liberty, that great symbol of Liberty, is next on the attack list. Lady Liberty has broken chains and shackles on her feet representing the breaking of tyranny and oppression. The torch is a symbol of liberty and lighting the way. She is striding forward as if leadings the way to not only liberty, but freedom. Do we remove this iconic symbol because it references oppression?
Or maybe the next under attack is the Great Seal of the United States of America. The seal has the national bird, the bald eagle, in it’s center which symbolizes freedom and independence. The shield representing our defense of our nation and our freedoms. The stripes represent the 13 colonies, the arrow war, and the olive branch peace. The eagle faces the olive branch as a symbol of our preference for peace, but we will fight if required. Our motto “E Pluribus Unum” is there as a reference to our unity.
There’s always the Liberty Bell that they could attack next. This bell was rang on July 8, 1776 to celebrate the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. It has stood as a symbol of American freedom for many years. The other side is that the Liberty bell was adopted as a symbol of the abolitionists in the fight over slavery. Since it is a representation of a period of slavery, do we remove and destroy the Liberty Bell?
Take a look throughout American history and you can find things that are offensive. There are many things that we may not be proud of as a nation. Other nations, such as Germany, Russia, Japan and England, have a similar story. Humanity is not perfect, but that does not mean we cannot be proud of who we are as a nation.
America is still the greatest nation on the face of this earth. We are a nation that has been blessed by our Creator with freedom and liberty that no other nation enjoys. I am proud to be an American and to live in this exceptional country. The left can deny the greatness of America, but these symbols remind me that America truly is great no matter what they say. God bless the United States of America.
