There has been a lot of conversation recently surrounding religion, specifically Christianity, as part of the Democratic primary. Candidates have suggested that churches should not be allowed to take a stance against popular culture. In essence, religious beliefs are not allowed if they would potentially offend someone.
In the past, I wrote articles discussing this and have talked about it on the podcast as well. The statements by those presidential candidates should concern anyone, whether you are Christian or not. Robert O’Rourke has suggested that a religious organization should lose it’s tax exempt status if it refuses to acknowledge LGBTQ rights.
Pete Buttigieg made statements that the Christianity of the right does not align with his Christianity. He has repeatedly attacked Christianity during the election cycle for various views. In the end, it places religious organizations in a situation in which their freedoms to practice religion are now under fire from the government.
Which brings me to the point of the article today. I ran across this article as I was catching up on some reading this morning. Church goers were forcibly removed from their church and worship leaders arrested in what was deemed as an illegal church service by Chinese officials. When you start putting religion into the political sphere, this is exactly what happens.
Think about those people who were simply trying to practice what our Constitution refers to as a basic right. The left would like to continue to impose it’s will on the right, forcing us to accept their views. As the left continues to push for communism, this is exactly what communism gets you.
Communist countries around the world tell their citizens what they can and cannot do in regards to religious practice. Those citizens are not allowed to practice their religion, or absence of religion if they choose, without regulation. In our country, you are free to practice your religion, or absence of it, FREELY. No one will lock you up for being an atheist. No one will lock you up for being a Christian. That is, until the left moves us further into communism.
At some point, the conversation will take place. It will be like any other move from the left. It will start with tax exempt status. Then it may move to restriction of certain faiths due to their LGBTQ beliefs. Someone will say I’m crazy to suggest that the day may come where you are forbidden to practice your religion.
Technically, China allows you to practice “normal” religion, yet we hear stories like this constantly. So just the guarantee of the ability to practice religion freely does not mean it will happen. What constitutes normal? As we see from the statements of Buttigieg and O’Rourke, the concept of normal may be changing. We must continue to stand and fight for our freedom of religion, even if the Democrats want to change it.
