Charlotte, NC — “Artur needs your help. He is asking all of you for help. Pastor Artur at this moment is a political prisoner. He said he is not waiting for sentencing. He is already sentenced and serving time in maximum security prison in solitary confinement. No trial needed. He is already punished to the fullest of their ability,” said Dawid Pawlowski, brother of Canadian Pastor Artur Pawlowski.
Artur was grabbed by police on Tuesday at his home in Calgary as he was preparing to travel to Alberta to hold church service with truckers in the Freedom Convoy. He was given three criminal charges; mischief, interfering with critical infrastructure and not keeping the peace; after speaking to the same truckers a few days earlier.
Dawid provided an update in a Thursday video on the conditions his brother is under as he remains in jail after his fifth arrest over the last two years, all for not complying with authoritarian dictates.
Artur is in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day with only an hour to speak with his family and lawyers, Dawid said. His Bible and a letter written for his lawyers have been confiscated while he has been subjected to multiple strip searches and is watched when he goes to the bathroom.
Dawid described the small cage Artur is in as a “dog kennel with no air circulation, suffocating him for many hours, all without water to drink.”
“He is treated horribly,” Dawid said. “It has nothing to do with justice or law …. This is not justice but punishment and an absolute abuse of power.”
Supporters have shown up to the prison every day for a vigil, according to Dawid, but guards have moved Artur from a cell so who cannot see his supporters.
Artur, who is a husband and father, needs Canadians to fight for him after two years of him fighting for them, Dawid said, as this is causing a “great strain on the entire family.”
In a phone message, Artur announced that he was doing a 3-day Esther fast and will then do a 21-day Daniel fast.
“Only in totalitarian governments will you see political opponents taken to prison and arrested, and the use of courts and tickets you see in North Korea, China and Russia,” Artur said. “So, it looks like, to me, the solidarity movement of Canada that’s come, it has become a big threat.”
Artur added: “People need to know that Canada has become a totalitarian dictatorship and is no longer a democracy. Pray for me. I’ll pray for you. And I hope to see you soon.”
