Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley called out Newsweek after the outlet reached out for comment about the color of a dress she wore to her daughter’s wedding.
“This is why people don’t trust the media. Liberal ‘journalists’ spend their time harassing conservatives about outfit choices,” Haley tweeted Friday. “Grow up, Newsweek.”

Haley included in her tweet a screenshot of an email from Newsweek reporter Gerrard Kaonga asking for comment about the “slight backlash” over the dress Haley wore to her daughter Rena’s wedding this month.
“Some have argued Haley should not have worn her dress as it is too close to the bride’s white,” Kaonga wrote. “Does Nikki Haley have any comment regarding this?”
It’s the latest instance of what Haley, a former ambassador to the United Nations, has called out as slanted coverage of her campaign. In February, CNN host Don Lemon was suspended after he said Haley “isn’t in her prime” because she’s in her 50s, comments that were widely criticized as sexist.
Kaonga in his inquiry probed pre-wedding discussions Haley and her daughter had. “Did she and her daughter discuss and decide the dresses they would be wearing ahead of the ceremony?” he asked.
Haley ended her tweet with a response to the query: “P.S. The dress was gold.”
Newsweek on Friday published the article covering Haley’s dress, largely a compilation of tweets from users criticizing Haley’s dress color. “The picture ignited the age-old wedding debate about guests wearing white,” Kaonga wrote in the article.
