An ethics investigation has been launched into the actions of a state senator in Nebraska who voted in a way that could benefit her family financially, according to a report in the Hill.
The review focuses on Sen. Megan Hunt, who voted against a bill that would ban gender-affirming health care for minors in her state.
The issue is that she has a child, a minor, who might qualify for Medicaid financing of treatments for gender dysphoria.
The complaint against Hunt was filed by David Begley, a lawyer who alleges Hunt could benefit financially if the ban fails. Begley explained that Hunt and her child “have a slightly more than average change of obtaining Nebraska Medicaid coverage” for the child’s “medical transition.”

“If LB 574 does not become law, then Sen. Hunt’s immediate family member could receive a financial benefit, with Medicaid paying for the medical services necessary to transition genders,” the complaint charged.
The Hill explained Nebraska is one of nine states where “gender-affirming health care,” or the administration of chemicals and even body-mutilating surgeries, for both youths and adults is not included in its Medicaid coverage.
Hunt publicly claimed that the complaint was harassment.
She charged, “This is using the legal system — that we have in our state to stop corruption, to increase transparency to hold governments accountable — and using it to harass a member of the legislature, who you all know is trying to do the right thing.”
