Pro-Israel House Democrats called out members of the “Squad” for referring to the Hamas terror attacks against Israel as “resistance” and laying criticism on the Jewish state.
Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) and Cori Bush (D., Mo.) received blowback from fellow party members for their statements after Hamas terrorists killed hundreds of Israeli citizens this weekend.
Tlaib said she continues to “grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today, and every day” and called for “dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance.”
Bush called for an end to American aid to Israel.
“As part of achieving a just and lasting peace, we must do our part to stop this violence and trauma by ending U.S. government support for Israeli military occupation and apartheid,” Bush said.
Democratic representatives Ritchie Torres (N.Y.) and Josh Gottheimer (N.J.) called out the statements in comments to Jewish Insider.
“U.S. aid to Israel is and should be unconditional, and never more so than in this moment of critical need,” Torres told Jewish Insider. “Shame on anyone who glorifies as ‘resistance’ the largest single-day mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust. It is reprehensible and repulsive.”
Gottheimer said in a statement that he was sickened by the Squad Democrats’ calls to end aid to Israel after Hamas’s murderous rampage.
“Two of my colleagues called for America to end assistance to Israel, despite the countless images of Israeli children, women, men, and elderly, including Americans, murdered by radical Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists,” Gottheimer said. “It sickens me that while Israelis clean the blood of their family members shot in their homes, they believe Congress should strip U.S. funding to our democratic ally and allow innocent civilians to suffer.”
The comments come after protesters in New York City gathered to support the invasion and attacks, an event supported by the Squad’s political party.
