An Israeli student at Columbia University was assaulted after hanging up posters of hostages taken by Hamas after the terrorist group’s attack on Israel.
The 24-year-old Israeli student was assaulted with a stick. The NYPD arrested a suspect and charged her with one count of assault, according to the Columbia Spectator.
The student, who requested anonymity from the outlet and was identified in the story as I.A., said he will not return to campus in the coming days and warned other Israeli students.
I.A. received minor injuries, including a broken finger. The suspect, a 19-year-old female, allegedly screamed obscenities at the students who had hung pictures of the hostages Hamas took after its invasion of Israel.
Data show that over the past three decades, conflicts in Israel correlate with a spike in anti-Semitic hate crimes in the United States and other countries.
The victim told the Columbia Spectator he was attacked for “being an Israeli who is under a certain kind of threat.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed on Thursday that at least 25 Americans have been murdered by Hamas with numerous others missing.
