Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) repeated her claim that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza in a speech at an anti-Israel rally on Wednesday afternoon, despite extensive evidence that the explosion in the hospital parking lot was caused by a faulty rocket launched by a Palestinian terrorist group.
“We just continue to watch people think it’s okay to bomb a hospital. With children,” she said, choking up. The Washington, D.C., rally, organized by the anti-Israel group Jewish Voice for Peace, was held to pressure Congress and the White House to call for an Israeli ceasefire.
Tlaib’s comments come after U.S. and Israeli officials rejected allegations by Hamas that Israel bombed the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on Tuesday. Video evidence and signal intelligence indicated that the explosion outside the hospital—which was far less damaging than initially reported—was caused by a misfired rocket from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Tlaib made similar claims about the hospital explosion in a Twitter post on Tuesday, which she has yet to delete or correct. “Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that,” she wrote.
Tlaib declined to retract that statement when asked by National Review on Wednesday. She later repeated the claim during the anti-Israel rally.
During her speech at the rally, Tlaib also slammed President Joe Biden for supporting Israel’s military response against Hamas.
“President Biden, not all of America is with you on this one,” yelled Tlaib. “And you need to wake up and understand that. We are literally watching people commit genocide and killing vast majorities just like this.”
