Martha’s Vineyard Resident Blogs About Hamas

by Andrew Stiles
October 24, 2023
in Opinion

What happened: Barack Obama, a semi-retired resident of Martha’s Vineyard, posted a lengthy statement on his personal blog spelling out his “thoughts on Israel and Gaza.”

What he said: The blog post was as pompous and long-winded as one might expect from a self-styled intellectual who writes multi-volume memoirs. Reading the whole thing would be a waste of any self-respecting person’s time, so here is the abridged version.

• The Martha’s Vineyard resident, who recently lost his personal chef in a tragic paddleboarding accident (or so authorities claim) near his $19 million waterfront estate, had some advice for how Israel should respond to the Hamas terrorist attack that killed more than 1,400 Jews earlier this month.

• “It’s understandable that many Israelis have demanded that their government do whatever it takes to root out Hamas and make sure such attacks never happen again,” Obama posted on the blog. He went on to acknowledge that Hamas “seems to intentionally hide among civilians, thereby endangering the very people they claim to represent. Still…”

• The blogger’s advice: “This is an enormously difficult task. … The world is watching.” Israel should simply pursue “a strategy that can incapacitate Hamas [the terrorists who intentionally hide among civilians] while minimizing further civilian casualties.” One cannot help but marvel at such insight.

• Obama concluded, in so many words (so, so many): Why can’t we all just get along? He even suggested further reading, posting links to columns by Thomas Friedman and Ben Rhodes.

Crucial context: The island-dwelling multimillionaire, best known for his efforts to anoint Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 2016, has ties to some of America’s most prominent anti-Semites.

• Obama spearheaded the controversial nuclear deal with Iran, the leaders of which routinely call for the destruction of Israel and are the chief sponsors of Hamas.

• The blogger has close ties to Edward Said and Rashid Khalidi, so-called academics who specialized in anti-colonialism and anti-Israel studies.

Khalidi, a former freelance public relations flack for the Palestine Liberation Organization, has made dozens of media appearances since the October 7 attack by Hamas, in which he has sought to put the terrorist atrocities into “context,” arguing that Israel’s “settler colonialism” and “apartheid” regime was to blame for the murder of innocent civilians.

• Obama has also palled around with Louis Farrakhan, the virulently anti-Semitic leader of the Nation of Islam who has described Jews as “termites” and praised Adolf Hitler as a “very great man.”

• Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s longtime pastor, is a notorious anti-Semite. Alas, they are no longer in touch because, according to Wright, “Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me.”

• Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. His accomplishment: apologizing to Muslims.

Bottom line: Bloggers are the worst.
