Haley Within Single Digits of Trump in New Hampshire: Poll

Former South Carolina governor and ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley moved within single digits of former president Donald Trump in Hew Hampshire, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Trump received 39 percent of the New Hampshire Republican electorate’s support in the poll from CNN, while Haley took 32 percent. Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie was in third place with 12 percent, followed by entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Florida governor Ron DeSantis at 8 percent and 5 percent respectively.

The poll represents a significant improvement in Haley’s performance in the state. Her share of the vote increased 12 points from a November CNN poll. Its results indicate that there is room for Haley to improve before New Hampshirites cast their votes in the Jan. 23 New Hampshire primary, as 36 percent of those who chose neither Trump nor Haley said Haley was their second choice. Thirty percent said Trump was their second choice.

Fifty-four percent of respondents who chose Haley said they had definitely decided on her, while 80 percent of those who chose Trump said the same.

CNN conducted the poll in conjunction with the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, and it consisted of 1,864 adults in the Granite State. The poll, which also measured the attitudes of likely Democratic primary voters, carried an overall margin of error of 2.3 percent. For the 914 likely Republican primary voters in the poll, the margin of error was 3.2 percent.

Haley’s performance in the poll comes just under a month after New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu (R.) endorsed her. The CNN poll is not the only one that reports positive results for her. Since October, Haley has improved in the RealClearPolitics polling average and recently jumped DeSantis to take second place in the primary. Trump leads her in that metric by over 47 points.
