Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will not attend a birthday party fundraiser organized by a super PAC backing him that falsely billed celebrities as attendees.
The independent candidate is backing out of the Jan. 22 fundraiser hosted by American Values 2024, which backs Kennedy, U.S. News & World Report reported Monday and ABC News confirmed Tuesday. The super PAC had said that world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli would sing at the event and that other celebrities including Dionne Warwick, Martin Sheen, and Mike Tyson would also attend.
The four purported guests or their representatives, however, later denied that they were coming to the fundraiser. Only Tyson admitted that he was invited, and he said he declined the invitation. Kennedy’s campaign told ABC News that it did not have anything to do with the organization of the PAC’s event.
Though he is unlikely to win in November, Kennedy could have an impact on the race between President Joe Biden and presumptive Republican nominee and former president Donald Trump, according to a recent poll.
In that USA Today survey, Kennedy took 10 percent of the vote in a matchup between him, the two major-party candidates, and other third-party candidates. Trump beat Biden by 2 points in that poll.
