New Poll Shows Support of Socialism Increasing

Socialism crossroads

A new Gallup survey released Monday, shows that 43% of Americans believe Socialism would be a good thing for the country. The poll also shows that 51% believe Socialism would be a bad thing for the country, showing a very sharp divide among Americans in their feelings on Socialism. The Gallup survey compared data to a survey from 1942 showing the change in support of Socialism, with the overwhelming majority of the support going towards the support of it.

I wrote about the new Democratic Socialist movement a while back and the support that current Democratic Presidential candidates have placed behind socialist plans. I also described how this is seen in some of the plans released by these candidates, such as Harris’ equal pay plan. Many people are not familiar with the Democratic Socialist platform and I think this is a great time to highlight some of their platform and how it contradicts itself.

If you go over to the website for the Democratic Socialists of America, their first paragraph describing their party sounds great. They believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically. Sounds wonderful right? Scroll on down to their platform and the campaigns they are currently working toward.

Objective #1 for them is Medicare for all. Yes, the group that claims that they want working people to run the economy and society wants to turn over all of your healthcare to the government. Their campaign page states that we need free at point of service healthcare that does not favor company executives. Not only free healthcare, but also free severance for those affected by the transition to government ran healthcare. So a program full of free handouts by the government. How are the working people running this program? Sounds like government takeover.

The second campaign is strong unions that build collective power for workers. The goal of this program is to centralize workers into a program to attempt to create collective power. They claim this builds power in the economy. Recall the recent Stop & Shop strike? This article has a great interview with an employee that describes the struggle with unions. The employee described how they needed to go back to work for the pay and that they could not survive on the stipend from the union. Certainly sounds like the union had the employees best interest in mind right? While these people were struggling to make ends meet, union leadership was having no issues with their standard of living. According to UnionFacts.com, the senior leaders of the organization all make significant salaries. Especially when placed in comparison of those Stop & Shop employees who were not allowed to work due to union representation.

The last campaign of the Democratic Socialists of America is Electoral Power. It is worth noting that their website does not say elected representation, but rather electoral power. Their campaign acknowledges that they realize whoever holds the elected power can make the changes they desire. Their goal is to get their people in office to further their demands for socialism and change.

If the Democratic Socialists obtain this power and control that they desire, there will no longer be any representation of Americans. The end result of their control will be total dictation of anything you can do. That’s what they are after in universal healthcare, free education, regulation of business pay, and any other programs that they are trying to implement. They may claim the idea is for everyone to get a fair chance and a level playing field, but the real goal is to keep everyone else under their rule. Socialism has failed anywhere it has been tried and it will be no different if it is tried in the United States.
