In the recent CNN town hall meetings, Mayor Pete Buttigieg stated that, “We should be able to establish that God does not have a political party.” He shared that there are challenges being a member of the LGBTQ community and being a person of faith. He shared that his faith tradition teaches him to support specifically the least among us. The comments by Buttigieg are both surprising and not. The liberal agenda has been forcing the LGBTQ agenda into the mainstream for many years now and it was simply a matter of time until they found an acceptable candidate to push into the spotlight in a Presidential election. While I agree that God is not a registered Democrat or Republican, we can be certain that the political platform of the Mayor is in direct contradiction to the faith he claims.
Obviously, as a conservative, I stand against the majority of the Democrat platform for various reasons. Regarding economic issues, many of these objections are purely from my personal experience and viewpoints in regards to private business and our culture as a whole. In regards to social issues, many of these are due to my Christian faith. To practice Christianity means to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Based on this, there are several issues with the platform of the Democratic Party and Mayor Pete. First of all, he is an outspoken homosexual. There are many arguments regarding Old Testament statements (Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13) stating that it is Old Testament and shouldn’t be regarded. There are those who also argue against Paul’s writings in Romans 1:26-27 in the New Testament. So for the sake of the discussion, lets stick with just the teachings of Jesus where in Matthew 19:3-6 Jesus himself taught that we were created male and female and that a man shall cleave to his wife. So Mayor Pete is living in a direct contradiction of the teachings of Jesus Christ. I certainly do not approach this from any position of hate towards anyone that is homosexual. In God’s eyes we are all equal and we should not harbor hate. Yet, the life he lives is a contradiction to the Christian faith.
Continuing on, Mayor Pete as a Democrat also supports abortion. Throughout scripture, the Bible teaches that Children are a blessing from God (see Psalm 127:3-5) and that children are important (Matthew 18:2-6, 10). So while we argue that Old Testament teachings are not valid for our day, there is still the commandment that we should not kill in Exodus 20:13. It’s still a valid and held moral principle of our day. So if we understand that at conception there is a unique life born (see the post on life here), then we understand that abortion is murder. Just because the baby is not out of the womb does not mean it isn’t a unique and living being. In fact, Democrats continue to double down on abortion with new legislation in areas like New York. Under the Reproductive Health Act of 2019, a woman could get an abortion just prior to a child’s birth for her health, including mental health. So in theory, if the child causes stress and it affects your health, you can kill the child prior to birth so you won’t be stressed. This is a viewpoint that the Mayor supports. This just does not line up with Christianity as a whole. This is a platform of murder which is a direct conflict with Christian teachings.
I’m confident there are those out there who will be quick to jump to the statements of how President Trump claims Christian faith, yet he also has many flaws and has contradicted the teachings of Christianity. President Trump does have his flaws and has many contradictions of Christianity in his life. There is no perfect Christian as everyone has made mistakes against the teachings of Christianity. We shouldn’t be focused on perfection but focused on how someone responds to their mistakes. I haven’t seen an apology from the Democrats on abortion since it’s a focal point on their platform.
