Sanders Goes All In On FDR and Socialism

by JD Washington

In a speech on Wednesday, Senator Bernie Sanders went all in on his support and claims of socialism at a rally. During the speech, Sanders tried to make a comparison of Neo-Nazi’s from Charlottesville and Nazi’s from 1939 in New York City. Sanders tried to establish comparisons between himself and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Sanders claimed that his proposed socialism would be similar to the leadership of FDR. He touted economic programs that FDR implemented that Sanders stated, “worked for everyone.”

Sanders continued in his speech and compared himself to former Presidents John F Kennedy and Bill Clinton in an effort to help him align with the main Democratic Party. The comparisons are interesting as Sanders made the statements trying to indicate that all of these individuals were considered socialists, along with FDR.

The JFK and Bill Clinton comparisons are a little difficult to picture from Bernie Sanders. While both were Democrats, both had plans and policy that differed drastically. One of those being taxes. Clinton supported a tax increase through the Omnibus bill, while Kennedy decided to cut the tax rates to spur economic growth. Kennedy was concerned about debt increases as a way to spur economic growth, much against the Democratic advisors in his White House.

Sanders has some similarities to Clinton, but the comparison to FDR is certainly a good comparison. History books would tell you that FDR was a great president and led us out of the Great Depression, but if you study into his policy it can be held responsible for many of the issues that lingered for so long. After 8 years of FDR’s New Deal policy, unemployment was still over 14%.

Through FDR’s spending in the New Deal, the overall economy never recovered. In addition to the high unemployment, the National Debt continued to rise. FDR added over 1,000 percent to the US National Debt while he was President through his programs. The spending never spurred the growth and the debt continued to mount.

FDR contributed to currency manipulation, through the removal of the gold standard and manipulating the value of Gold. He ordered everyone to surrender their gold for dollars that had a claimed value. He implemented Social Security, which is now responsible for over $1 trillion of the federal budget, roughly 25%. FDR also established minimum wage.

Now we understand that Bernie Sanders is out to make himself the new FDR in an effort to “save America.” His Medicare for all plan, which we know will cost approximately $30 trillion for the first 10 years, will not be fully covered by the tax changes proposed by Sanders.

Sanders wants you to trust him to become President. He is confident that he can outspend any previous president. He is confident that he can grow government control, regulations, and dependence by more than has ever been accomplished in US History. America does not need saving by a President Sanders. We need to be saved from a President Sanders.
