House Fails to Pass Impeachment Resolution

Impeachment

On Wednesday, the Democrat led US House of Representatives failed to pass the impeachment resolution that was presented by Al Green. The final vote was 332-95 with only 95 Democrats supporting the measure. The measure was not expected to pass, but many Democrats had hedged hope on Republicans supporting the measure.

Another interesting vote against the measure was newly independent representative Justin Amash. Amash joined all Republicans and 137 Democrats in voting against the measure. Amash had recently called for Pelosi to push for impeachment stating that he felt that there was a case to support it.

Pelosi was quick to respond after the vote saying that she was not supporting this specific resolution for impeachment as there was multiple ongoing investigations into President Trump. The fact is, most Democrats realize they still have no reasoning to impeach President Trump.

The resolution proposed by representative Al Green was simply a show for Democrats who continue to be upset that President Trump is in office. If you read the resolution, multiple references were made to misdemeanors that there is no support or proof of. The resolution, in essence, is merely a statement of “we do not like Trump so we want him out.”

Democrats continue to pull out the impeachment discussion as a result of the Mueller investigation and I expect they will increase this rhetoric in the coming weeks after Mueller testifies. Democrats will continue to push this impeachment discussion into the future to help drive the discussion for the 2020 election cycle.

Soon after results of the vote came out, President Trump celebrated the news of the vote via Twitter.

Mueller’s Testimony is scheduled July 24th, one week after this impeachment vote. Three hours of testimony are scheduled and Mueller has previously said he will not add any additional information by testimony to his released report. So while the story may be over today, it will come right back next week as the media renews calls for impeachment.
