Religious Freedom Under Attack

Religious freedom

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you have witnessed the left start a war on Christianity. From the political sphere to the media, the left is in an all out assault on anything Christian. I wrote about this several months ago, but feel it’s worth revisiting.

The left is not hiding their war on Christianity anymore. What used to be a simple disagreement in values, has become an intolerable set of ideals. The left simply cannot handle anyone that disagrees with their pandering. The left insists on  an anything goes mentality without any justification that it could be wrong. Don’t believe me? Just look at a recent statement by AOC where she calls for prisons to be shut down. The left advocates for the complete elimination of moral compass.

The Equality Argument

The left’s war on morality continues beyond this however. Just look at the recent equality town hall that was hosted by CNN. In the event, Beto O’Rourke said that churches should lose their tax exempt status if they oppose same-sex marriage. The LA Times ran several letters that attempted to tie all Christians to Trump and Trump’s actions.

We received a lot of comments on a recent article from our stop at a Rev. Franklin Graham event in North Carolina. Obviously, Rev. Graham upsets a lot of folks on the left. Why? Because he is outspoken on his disagreement with the LGBTQ agenda. As Christians, we at the Liberty Loft also agree with Rev. Graham that the LGBTQ agenda is full of sin.

You have to dig deeper into this topic though to see what’s really taking place. A recent poll found that approximately 4.5% of Americans identify as LGBTQ. If the US population estimates of 327.2 million in 2018 are correct, this means that 14.724 million American identify as LGBTQ. The left would have you believe this is an overwhelming number of Americans, yet they are a small minority.

Now, if you look at those in the US who oppose the LGBTQ agenda, the number is significantly higher. For example, the Southern Baptist Convention has come out against this agenda and called it sin. It is estimated that there are 15 million members of Southern Baptist Churches. This does not count other groups, such as Missouri-Synod Lutheran groups who number approximately 2 million members.

Religious Freedom

So are we saying that the larger group of Americans who oppose LGBTQ deserve to lose their right to religious freedom for opposing LGBTQ? The Heritage Foundation gives a great explanation of religious freedom on their website. On the site, they state that freedom of religion is more than simply the freedom to worship. Freedom of religion means that one should not have to go against their beliefs to conform to culture or government.

The left would like to force Christian’s into a corner and into submission to their desires. If you speak out against the agenda, it’s hate and discrimination. If you say you support President Trump, well now you are horrible for supporting him. There is no middle ground for the left, you must be fully “woke” to be accepted.

Yet, to be fully “woke,” one must abandon any moral reasoning. You cannot oppose abortion or same-sex marriage. If you do, you deserve to lose your right to practice your religion according to the left. When you really think about it, the argument really is absurd.

Should we force Jews and Muslims to eat pork, since their lack of support could hurt pig farmers? The Catholic Church has opposed birth control as evil. Do we force them to accept it since it could discriminate against pharmacies and pharmaceutical organizations? Each of these arguments is as asinine as the arguments of the left.

The LGBTQ community can do what they wish. I do not have to answer for anyone’s actions before God except my own. I can speak my mind regarding my beliefs, just as other religions may choose to stand against other practices as well. Just because I eat pork, does not mean I hate Jews or Muslims. I simply choose to stand up and say that I do not agree with those practices.

In the end, religious freedom is under attack. The left will continue to attack and try to force submission to their special interests. It is important that Christians stand up against immorality and for what they believe in. If we do not stand up for these things now, we may not have the opportunity to in the future.
