Los Angeles, CA – On Friday, Sorrento Therapeutics will announce a breakthrough study in coronavirus treatment. The company has found a specific antibody that can shield the body from coronavirus and flush it from the system in 4 days. For now, it is called STI-1499.
Fox News reports that initial studies show the antibody has a 100% inhibition of COVID-19. In an interview, the CEO of the company said that this is a 100% cure for the coronavirus. The antibody could be produced well in advance of a potential vaccine hitting the market.
This breakthrough would lead to significant advancement in the ability to reopen the economy without fear. The CEO called out how social distancing would no longer be an issue. It could be the breakthrough in research that has long been desired in dealing with the coronavirus.
According to the company, they have collected billions of antibodies over the past decade for testing. They had narrowed the search to around 100 antibodies in their study that showed promise. Through the research, STI-1499 proved itself time and again.
This latest news is exciting as the nation continues to struggle with the coronavirus outbreak. The coronavirus has infected over 4.5 million people across the world and is responsible for over 300,000 deaths. In the United States, nearly 1.5 million cases have been identified with almost 87,000 deaths having been attributed to the disease.
The research also highlights the push by President Trump to deliver a treatment for the coronavirus as the US faces a potential resurgence in the coming months. The reopening of the economy, while needed, may cause an increase in cases. Additional cases have also been found in the United States due to the expanded testing capabilities compared to many other countries.
President Trump has announced Operation Warp Speed. It’s an initiative to develop a vaccine and treatments for the coronavirus by January. This comes ahead of the schedule that many, including Dr Fauci, have indicated is possible.
In his statements, Trump indicated that there are 14 potential candidates for the vaccine at this present time. The project will coordinate with other nations to produce and distribute the vaccine quickly. President Trump even indicated that the US Military may be involved in assisting distribute the vaccine one available.
A vaccine and potential treatments would be welcome across the country as many are stuck at home under state stay orders. Many states have set out plans to reopen, but with restrictions still in place. Millions are still out of work amid the various shut downs.
As states start to reopen, the landscape looks much different. People everywhere are turning to masks, gloves or other protective measures to help mitigate potential risks that they face. Businesses are marking aisles and appropriate distances to maintain on the floors.
The current CDC recommendation is that the public should wear cloth face masks when going into public. They also recommend consistent cleaning, appropriate hand washing and appropriate cough and sneeze etiquette.
A potential treatment could certainly lead to a return to normal for much of the country. If returning to normal is even possible after the pandemic.
