Atlanta, GA — The stage is set for a showdown around coronavirus in Atlanta. As the nation remains divided over the pandemic, the Atlanta mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, and the Georgia governor are headed for a legal showdown. The latest comes after Governor Kemp clarified his existing executive order.
In response to his update, the Atlanta mayor, along with 14 other local leaders, said that they would defy the order. They would be mandating masks in their cities, which the executive order prevents.
Gov. Kemp has sued the city of Atlanta for the move, saying he is doing this on behalf of the local businesses in the city. The Governor says that these business owners and their workers are struggling. Kemp’s order strongly suggests mask usage, but does not mandate them.
While most of the mainstream media will pitch this as a legal battle over facemasks, and the constitutionality of them, it is actually about something much different. This is not just about facemasks, but about the Atlanta mayor and her attempt to be the VP pick for Joe Biden.
The Mayor has been said to be going through vetting for the VP spot on the Biden campaign. Throughout the pandemic, she has continued to make statements to garner media attention. She has campaigned for Biden and was an early supporter of the former VP.
Kemp’s move helped the mayor to continue to raise her national profile. She immediately took to Twitter to release a statement about the lawsuit. She attacked the governor for the suit and immediately launched into Democratic talking points.

If you ever questioned whether the COVID-19 pandemic was political, this proves it. Governor Kemp is the highest authority in the state of Georgia and has the right to issue executive orders that overrule the local municipalities. The decision to ignore the order is purely political.
Until the coronavirus pandemic, masks were generally not recommended by the CDC for the prevention of the spread of viruses. All the mainstream media outlets were against masks, along with the CDC, until it was a political talking point. Now, the mainstream media and Democrats alike have made this a focal point going into the 2020 election.
They have successfully created battle lines, families against families and workers against employers. Across the country, everyone is fighting and arguing over facemasks. The entire time, the Democrats are using it as a ploy to win an election.
