Charlotte, NC — Both New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) are facing accusations of sexual misconduct. One has received a lot of discussion among mainstream media outlets, while the other went largely ignored until the scandal grew so large that the media outlets could no longer ignore it. We could spend hours talking about the mainstream media bias in this situation, but that’s not the point of this article.
Aside from the fact that the accusations involve one Democrat and one Republican, there are some key differences in both situations that must be considered. Sure, you will hear more about Cawthorn due to the media bias, but this is about facts and evidence.
In the case of NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the accusations are pretty specific. For example, each woman that has accused Cuomo of something has issued specific complaints, specific statements, and evidence. The first accusation came from Lindsey Boylan, who named specific flights and situations that happened. Flight records were released and helped her argument about the Governor’s actions.
The second allegation came from Charlotte Bennett, a former aid to the governor. In her statements, she talked about specific comments that were made by Cuomo. It was so challenging for her to work with Cuomo that she was forced to take another position in the New York government to be away from him.
After her allegations, Cuomo released a statement that said that he was being playful and never meant to hurt anyone. He said that he was just joking and that he never touched anyone or propositioned anyone. He never denied that he said the things he was accused of. With the formal complaint that was filed against him, it was tough for him to say otherwise.
Then on Monday night, The New York Times ran the story of Anna Ruch who also had a complaint against unwanted advances by the NY Governor. In this accusation, there was photographic evidence of him grabbing her face and it was clear that Ruch was not appreciative of the move. Apparently, Cuomo asked her for a kiss at the event, which was inappropriate, to say the least.
In each of the situations, they named specific events, specific days, specific flights, and have specific evidence. In each of these situations, it is convincing that the NY Governor took part in unwanted advances of several women.
The story of Rep. Madison Cawthorn is completely different. The allegations against Cawthorn have the sounds of another Kavanaugh-style hit job from the Left. While they have narrowed the time-frame down to when he was in college, that is all the hard evidence that is presented in the case.
Multiple outlets were quick to run stories about Cawthorn and his time at Patrick Henry College in Virginia. CNN dedicated social media posts and covered it extensively. The Washington Post took their shots at Cawthorn as well. To hear the mainstream media say it, he would use his car to take “vulnerable women” out on rides and attempt to have inappropriate conversations with them and make advances on them.
As you read through the allegations, the stories cite “women” but never come out with specifics and details. Unlike the Cuomo situation, there have been few details outlining Cawthorn’s reported actions and simply statements about what he “did.”
The evidence is mounting against Cuomo, who refuses to do what he claimed that he would do. He refuses to stand and listen to the women that are making the accusations. He continues to fight against them alongside his legacy media partners. If the Left were serious about the MeToo movement, Cuomo would resign. Instead, he continues on as if nothing has happened.
Now I’m the first one to admit, if there were to be evidence that Cawthorn did the things that are reported, he should face the consequences. Just as I have said many times before, the evidence is paramount in any situation and a decision cannot be made simply on hearsay. In one of these two cases, there is evidence. In the other, there are simply allegations. Without the evidence, it looks more like a political hack job than the truth.
