Asheville, NC — Rep. Madison Cawthorn is not hiding how he feels about school mask mandates. The NC Republican representative made a visit to the Buncombe County School Board meeting to join in with residents to complain about the ruling that will require students to wear masks in schools this fall. The board voted 4-2 in favor of mandating masks.
Parents were upset that their opinions were not heard in regards to the mask mandate that was passed. A local reporter from WLOS-TV shared this video to her Twitter profile.

Cawthorn joined in with the angry parents. He said, “You have muzzled their voices just like you have muzzled our children” in regards to the absence of parent’s opinions being heard. He continued, “You passed this mask mandate without input from those who hold you accountable because you knew it was wrong.”
Cawthorn also said, “Forcing our children to wear a mask is nothing short of psychological child abuse.” He continued, “I’ve witnessed swampy back-door tactics from corrupt bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., but what you have done here today puts that all to shame.”
In his comments, Cawthorn joked that the corrupt bureaucrats in Buncombe County would fit in the swamp of Washington DC after their move to muzzle children. He advocated for parent’s choice.
