Racism is a topic that truly needs to be discussed in complete seriousness in our country today. It will never happen with the complete polarization that has come about in our country today between those on the left and right.
The left wants to use the term racism for their own benefits instead of pointing out the racism in their own ideologies, standards and policies.
The term racism is literally having, reflecting, or fostering the belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race, according to Miriam-Webster’s dictionary. The meaning behind racism could be that someone shows superiority of their own race by actions or words.
What many assume racism to mean is that someone says something that they don’t like or something offensive about a certain race, even if that statement is true. An example of this incorrect understanding of racism would be using statistics to prove the problem behind Black America’s crime rate stems from a lack of a father in most cases.
This isn’t showing, or supporting, any sense of superiority of a race or even lowering the integrity of another in any way, but the left tries to distract our nation from seeing the root of many of our problems in America, and that is a broken structure in our homes.Â
The left fights back against most of the policies proposed by the right by using race against them. For example, when the right wants to protect election integrity by making sure only qualified voters with a government issued photo ID are allowed to vote, the left uses race to try to stop them from passing these laws.
The arguments that they use is that not all Black, Latino and Asian Americans can get a photo ID, therefore, this policy is racist. The notion itself is indeed racist by pressing the idea that minorities can’t afford to get photo ID or make it to a BMV to get this identification. (Editor’s Note: This action also calls into questions whether these various minorities have the mental capacities to procure an ID: an inherently racist attitude)
Of course we can’t expect the left-leaning hypocrites to see where their thinking is flawed, but we can point out that what they call racist is only a misunderstanding and misuse of the term. It has gotten to a point in our country where many don’t care when real racism enters into our society.
The left hopes to turn our eyes away from specific races being treated unfairly in several aspects of our nation and go along with their nullification of the actual issue that is at hand.Â
In many colleges and Ivy League universities in our country, Americans of minorities have an upper hand in being selected to attend these schools because of affirmative action. This isn’t the case for all minorities though. Asian Americans are expected to test higher to qualify and be selected into most colleges.Â
According to a study done by Princeton University in 2009, Asian Americans applicants’ SAT scores had to be 140 points higher than White students, 270 points higher than Hispanic students, and 450 points higher than Black students in order to be admitted to top universities. This makes it much more difficult for Asian Americans to make it into colleges who practice affirmative action, but it is also quite racist toward other races as well.
If they expect Asians to score higher, then they also expect other races to score lower. This is segregating races by their perceived level of intelligence, the most racist expectations being on Black Americans because, according to this study, they don’t believe a Black American can score as high as any other race, therefore giving them more leniency on their test scores.Â
This is just a few of many examples we can use to show how many of those on the left are showing racism in their own lines of thinking. The leftist thinking of using race to mislead the American people and separate races among each other is racism itself.
Racism needs to be a term used carefully in America today. When the term is used incorrectly, it loses its meaning and racism is an incredibly consequential action that needs to be stopped when it is invading our society.
