After a rigorous four days of voting, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is now in control of the speaker’s gavel, and he and his allies are probably enjoying a hard-fought victory. But the party might not last for long. Over the course of days of negotiations, more than a dozen GOP holdouts forced McCarthy to make concessions that reduced the authority of the incoming speaker.
