Charlotte, NC — On Tuesday, Newsweek published an article that was about the suspect in the shooting in Brunswick, NJ over the weekend. The suspect is a Lawyer and is the chief suspect in the shooting of Judge Esther Salas son and husband. Judge Salas son died in the shooting.
The article was not focused on actual relevant information to the shooting. In all truthfulness, the article shared no news purpose at all. The only purpose of the article was a political attack tying the shooter to President Trump.
The article began immediately highlighting the attorney as an “anti-feminist” attorney, then spends several paragraphs describing the connection between President Trump and the shooter. Does Newsweek really think that this assigns blame to President Trump for the shooting?
Of course not, but the article ran on purpose. The target of the article was to tie extremism to President Trump. Someone with a possible radical view to a President the media hates.
The author shares that the lawyer had posted “racist and misogynistic” writings online, immediately transitioning into how the accused was tied to the Trump 2016 campaign. It chronicled his time in Trump Tower to his attending the inauguration in 2017.
The article goes so far as to describe the Trump supporter and campaign volunteers. They are middle-aged baby boomers. Occasionally they are beautiful women, according to the article.
The article never said that President Trump is an extremist, racist, or that his supporters are. It didn’t have to. The subliminal message was clear; Trump and his people are racist.
Many people who read the article will quickly make the assimilation to President Trump and his supporters being racist, or misogynists. They will quickly tie President Trump to a man accused of murder, who hates women. They will easily connect the dots that those campaign workers and baby boomers are “evil” people.
This sort of propaganda writing in the media is what makes the American public no longer trust the media. Newsweek claims that they are committed to ethical and responsible journalism. Instead, they continue to drive hatred towards Trump and those who may support him through careless reporting such as this.
