On Thanksgiving and the Friday after, progressives have continued their call for more free stuff. Among their calls, they began attacking each other. It certainly shows how thankful that they really are.
It started late on Thursday with AOC and her tweets about universal education. AOC was taking shots at Pete Buttigieg and his education statements. Buttigieg understands the need to move back to the center to have any chance at winning. So he has began to run as more of a moderate candidate. AOC, a Bernie Sanders supporter, was quick to attack and address the need for free education.
3. When you start carving people out & adding asterisks to who can benefit from goods that should be available to all, cracks in the system develop.
4. Many children of the elite want to go to private, Ivyesque schools anyway, which aren’t covered by tuition-free public college!

This was not the end of the free education call. Elizabeth Warren is vying for the same set of supporters as Bernie Sanders. Obviously, she needs to get into the action on this subject. So Warren sent out a tweet talking about her education.
I got a high-quality public education for just $50 a semester—but that opportunity doesn't exist today. States invested less in our public colleges and shifted the burden onto students.
I'm fighting for universal public college so every student has the opportunity to succeed.

But is this statement really true? According to a 2014 article, it is but it’s still misleading. In that article, the 2014 inflation modification raised the price to approximately $1400. This would be almost $1600 in 2019. While that rate is far from the $10,000+ tuition rate at the University of Houston tuition rate now, it still is more than the $50 Warren cites.
It’s hard to compare monies from 1970 to 2019 but it makes great talking points right? There are hundreds of other variables in this as well. College attendance is higher, salaries of teachers is much higher. There are a lot of other things that schools must pay for now that are more expensive.
Yet, Warren nor AOC will bring up these talking points. The only thing they want to address is that tuition deserves to be free. But there is nothing that is completely free. While many public colleges have low tuition rates, they are supplemented by public funds. If the government funds education, taxes will go up on everyone to pay for it.
The issue is that Elizabeth Warren has been dishonest in her tax comments. Warren has ignored the fact that taxes will go up, while Sanders has been honest on what will happen. This certainly explains why Warren is slipping in the polls of late.
