On Tuesday evening, Nancy Pelosi unleashed an impeachment inquiry against President Trump. In a dramatic shift from previous statements, Pelosi cited national security concerns as a reason to begin the inquiry. According to reports, at least 187 House Democrats are on board with beginning proceedings.
The times have found us. The actions taken to date by the President have seriously violated the Constitution. It is for this reason that the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. pic.twitter.com/cHq7zgKJ1g

After initial reports broke in the media about Pelosi’s plan, President Trump agreed to release the transcript of the phone call with the Ukrainian leader that is in question. The move by Trump did not change the minds of the Democrats who are expected to vote on Wednesday on a resolution condemning Trump’s actions.
The resolution will be mostly symbolic as Democrats move to formalize the impeachment process that Rep Jerry Nadler has indicated he was already conducting. With the unity among Democrats, this will most likely give the impeachment proceedings the momentum needed.
Trump went to Twitter to respond to the statement with his own statements. In his tweets, he repeatedly stated how the transcript of the call has not been seen yet and labeled this a witch hunt.
There are a lot of Republicans who seem to think that Trump has set up Democrats as part of a strategy, but this has yet to become evident. There should certainly be a congressional hearing to determine if any actual laws were violated. My suspicion is that this will be just like the Mueller investigation and will have negative consequences for the Democrats. As I suggested Monday, it will certainly have negative consequences for Joe Biden.
