Sacramento, C.A. – Now that the primary is over, Joe Biden is simply waiting for the coronavirus to end like everyone else. Campaigning would probably be considered non-essential under many orders. In reality, the coronavirus has given him stump speeches anyway.
Essentially, all Joe Biden has to do right now is take easy interview requests and bash President Trump. It’s certainly easy to do that when no one is asking you difficult questions. Bashing Trump has almost become a second nature to any Democrats so that’s no challenge either.
The only real work he has to do is select a running mate. Some, like the Sacramento Bee, suggest he is selecting his Vice President. Most of the media act like his election is a foregone conclusion at this point. As long as Joe Biden can stay out of the public eye, it certainly helps his case.
We all know that as Joe Biden interacts in the public, that’s where he has challenges. Remember when he threatened someone not long ago at a campaign stop? It seems so far away, yet it was just over a month ago. He certainly weathered those sexual assault allegations easily as well.
The challenge for Biden is when he has to venture back into the public arena. When the interviews are not all friendly and he has to debate President Trump. That’s when he may face the challenge. It could also be why Democrats would really like to prolong this coronavirus situation as long as possible.
On Wednesday, Joe Biden held a virtual fundraising event and again made a mistake. He said he has no intentions of trying to reach out to Trump’s base. He also said that Trump supporters think that “all Mexican’s are rapists” and that “all Muslims are bad.” Certainly far from the message of unity that he campaigned with initially.
The Democrats mission on this campaign is that Biden needs a Vice President candidate that can make statements in public. One that can keep from risking public outcry at stupid comments like the one above. They need a scripted Joe Biden, not an off the cuff Joe Biden. It’s also the reason that a lot of Democrats should be concerned.
The economy will not stay closed forever. The general public is on a mission to reopen the economy. Recent studies are showing that the coronavirus is most likely more widespread at this point. This gives more backing to the opening measures and protests.
If Joe Biden is forced to campaign in the open pubic, he is going to make more mistakes. As soon as the debates start, I quickly imagine President Trump frustrating him into mistakes. He showed this as part of the Democratic debates. With a group of mistakes, Biden could quickly work himself out of the election race.
Polls are tightening across the country as well. In the state races, Trump and Biden are in a dead heat. This literally could be the election of the last mistake. Whichever candidate makes the last bad statement could lose the election. That’s crazy to think about.
But it could be true. If that’s the case, I think there’s a clear frontrunner. Even with an economic downturn, I don’t see how President Trump could lose. If you have a choice between someone that has some obvious mental impairment and Trump, I believe most choose Trump. He’s not perfect, but we know he is not going to forget that he’s the President.
