FDA revokes hydroxychloroquine authorization, but Trump accomplished his goal

Charlotte, NC – On Monday, the FDA revoked its authorization to use hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus treatment. The authorization was an emergency use authorization, allowing use of the medication until outcomes could be studied in more detail. Trump has also claimed to take the medication himself.

CNN quickly pounced on the news as an attempt to bash President Trump. Other left wing propaganda outlets will do the same. Yes, President Trump touted the mediation. Yes, the FDA has since said that it should not be used.

The big picture is what is being missed here. President Trump accomplished something that was needed. He started a discussion about the potential treatment of coronavirus. At the time he started this, the only options being suggested were sitting at home and waiting.

Millions of Americans indeed sat at home under the stay orders by their governors. Millions of jobs were lost as part of the closures. Americans were thrust into fear and chaos amid a virus that there was no possible treatment options.

Then President Trump started the discussion and suggestion about potential treatment. It began with hydroxychloroquine. Then along came the suggestion of remdesivir, another anti-viral medical that has shown significant promise in treating patients.

Then came a lot of great news about progress on vaccines. Multiple vaccines are being pushed through and showing great effectiveness against the virus. Doses will enter manufacturing prior to final approval to help availability for the fall and winter.

President Trump did not cure coronavirus, nor did he discover the treatment for it. President Trump did give hope that was absent from the discussion. He gave a different perspective and provided talking points that were significantly different than anyone else in the healthcare industry.

At a time that everyone encouraged you to stay home and cower in fear, President Trump said there must be another way. In a time you were told you may die and millions of people could die, President Trump said we are the greatest nation and we can overcome.

So while the media celebrates the FDA ruling, we should look at what happened. President Trump changed the conversation and focus in the midst of the pandemic. He may have been wrong, but in so many ways, he was right.
