CHARLOTTE — During the Trump administration, one focus has been on the judicial system and appointments. By October 1st of this year, Trump had appointed over 200 federal judges. This was the second most judicial appointments since Jimmy Carter.
Pew Research shared that by July, Trump had appointed nearly 25% of all active federal judges, behind only former President Obama. The average Supreme Court appointments by Bush and Obama was two, while Trump has appointed three.
A lot of the appointments were conservative justices that may have decided to step down or retire since they knew that a Republican would replace them. Even still, there have been some significant changes across the judicial system that will last for years to come.
That is just the problem for the left. They do not like the fact that they cannot control their will through the courts. It seems that Joe Biden is already working on a plan for how to address the problem if he were to enter the White House.
He shared in October that he wanted to establish a commission to look at judicial reform. Those questions came amid pressure from the progressives and the mainstream media to say that he was going to stack the Supreme Court with justices. This was Biden’s way to appease them without having to commit to court stacking.
New reports indicate that Biden and his team are preparing a list of potential justices, so they can accept retirements and start working through appointments as quickly as possible. As the article from The Wall Street Journal states, there is just one problem. Republicans may control the Senate.
Pending the outcome of the special elections in Georgia, Republicans may still hold the advantage in the Senate, albeit slim at best. Biden is relying on the belief that he will be able to convince Senators from his past to work with him to achieve appointments. One mentioned specifically was Sen. Charles Grassley (R., Iowa).
While Biden may seem to want to rely on his relationships in the Senate to help him, times are much different now. Biden’s former boss, Barack Obama, divided the nation at a much deeper level than ever before. Under President Trump, we have continued to see the stark differences between conservatives and liberals.
Americans were strong in their rebuke of the progressive agenda in the 2020 election. While Biden may want to rely on his past to help him achieve agreements with Republicans, if Republicans are smart, it will not happen.
The only thing that happens when Republicans compromise is the continued move towards the liberal dream of socialism. The importance of Republicans maintaining the Senate cannot be overstated.
