Austin, TX — On Sunday, Democrats in Texas walked off the job to prevent passage of an election integrity bill that Gov. Greg Abbott has placed priority on. According to a local reporter, t’s just the fourth time in history that quorum has been broken in order to prevent a bill’s passage.
The Washington Post reports that Democrats received instruction just after 10:35 p.m. They were told to take their keys and leave the building entirely.
The exodus from the floor came after Chris Turner, the House Democratic chairman, sent instructions to colleagues at 10:35 p.m. CDT: “Members, take your key and leave the chamber discreetly. Do not go to the gallery. Leave the building.” https://t.co/ZGXa1hcwpG

While the bill failed to pass at this point, the bill will still be brought before the House during a special session in the near future. Democrats have argued that this bill is “Jim Crowe 2.0” in their latest catch phrase attempts.
The mainstream media and Democrats have called the bill the most restrictive election reform bill ever. It has received criticism from President Joe Biden and many say it makes it more difficult to cast a ballot. Some of the changes include the removal of drive-thru voting and 24 hour voting centers that were introduced last year amid the pandemic.
Other changes include expanded access for poll watchers, to help monitor election processes and assure that election fraud is not occurring. Mail-in ballots were also addressed as the measure makes it illegal to send a mail-in ballot to someone who did not request it.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says that he intends to call a special session to make sure the bill is passed.
Election Integrity & Bail Reform were emergency items for this legislative session.
They STILL must pass.
They will be added to the special session agenda.
Legislators will be expected to have worked out the details when they arrive at the Capitol for the special session.
