By all measures, Former Vice President and Democratic presidential hopeful, Joe Biden, had a great Super Tuesday. During his recent victory speeches, “Sleepy Joe” may have forgotten where he was, or faces and names he should have remembered, or even better yet, what office he was seeking. However, one thing that has remained constant is “Biden’s Promise” to take on the NRA and pass massive gun reform.
According to Biden.com, during his nearly fifty years in politics, “Creepy Joe” has fought against both the NRA and gun manufacturers. During his tenure as Senator of Deleware during the Clinton Era, Biden assisted in the passing of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which established the background check system that has since kept more than 3 million firearms out of dangerous hands. In 1994, Biden – along with Senator Dianne Feinstein – secured the passage of 10-year bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Biden guarantees, as President, “he will defeat the NRA again.”
Like so many of his Democratic comrades, Biden’s idea of gun reform would be to restrict private gun ownership, and tax and hold liable US gun manufacturers for the misuse of their products in both criminal and civil cases – a move that would spell the end to firearm and ammunition manufacturing in America. According to Biden’s campaign, as President, he will pursue constitutional, common-sense gun safety policies.
What is Biden’s Plan of Attack?
- Hold gun manufacturers accountable.
- Get weapons of war off our streets.
- Ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
- Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.
- Buyback the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in our communities.
- Reduce the stockpiling of weapons
Although Biden believes that he is somehow the “Grandfather of Gun Reform,” during his 8-years as Vice President under Obama, not a single piece of gun legislation was passed or enacted. Joe is a man of the times past – however, his attempt to be relevant to recent gun violence in America makes his push for President frightening for those who own and produce firearms.
