Washington, D.C. – Sunday evening, President Trump announced that he was activating the National Guard in California, New York and Washington to add in the coronavirus response. The activation will allow the use of the National Guard while the Federal Government takes care of the expenses associated with their use. The state governors will remain in control of their use throughout their activation.
The National Guard is expected to be used as a means to help encourage people to stay home under the stay orders those states have implemented. California and New York recently implemented those stay orders and New York announced potential penalties for those who do not obey them. The goal is to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19.
Trump also announced additional measures including medical stations for each state to raise capacity for patients. He is also working to establish East and West coast Naval hospitals. This would continue to further the capacity to treat patients that acquire the COVID-19 virus.
