New York, N.Y. – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is making herself out to be a hero in regards to coronavirus response. On Wednesday, she shared a tweet of an interview in which her socialist ideas were discussed. The video was initially posted by Justice Democrats, a radical left-wing PAC supporting the Democratic-socialist platform.
In the interview with Joy Behar, AOC was asked about how interesting it was that Republicans and Democrats alike have joined her. Specifically, the conversation revolved around how Republicans and Democrats are supporting things like paid sick leave and more.
AOC said that anyone wants to fight the policies until they have been personally impacted. She claims that social vulnerability is what brings people to support socialism. You can hear her comments in the video below.

AOC suggests that the crisis should be driving us to treat people humanely. I guess by humanely she is referring to personal responsibility. Apparently, it’s an issue to expect someone to pay for their housing, their food or healthcare. It’s just more from her free bag of goodies.
Unfortunately for AOC, she does not speak for all Americans. In fact, she probably does not speak for most in her district. Her favorability ratings have been miserable. But I think there is something for conservatives to take note of in this interview.
Conservatives must be careful to give her any ammunition going into 2020. She already faces multiple challengers in her primary race. She is getting the ability to step out on her platform and claim victory. While the coronavirus may not be outright socialism, it could be argued it has some foundations in it.
Democratic-socialists are screaming out for things like free healthcare and universal basic income. Even “moderate” Democrats argued for many of these things in the coronavirus relief bill. These Democrats can claim to be moderates, but their actions speak otherwise. They are simply attempting to capitalize on the situation. AOC is going to do the same for her political career.
Many conservatives supported some of the measures in the relief package, but need to quickly call out the need to move toward a different response. I’m not going to lie and say that I have all the answers, but putting everyone into plans that mirror socialism is a bad idea as well. There must be another way.
Which brings me to the main point. Republicans need to actually have a plan. Many Republicans have simply resorted to being cheerleaders for President Trump. Not that it’s a bad thing, as I have supported many of his policies. This is a time when congressional Republicans need to be outspoken and vocal with plans.
Democrats are going to win the media highlights with their plans and rebuttal of Republicans. Republicans must stick to the main points. The solution to this problem is not more government. This has been the case far too long and our national debt shows it. If the Democrats continue to get their way, I don’t want to imagine the amount of debt we will have. There must be a better way.
