Oklahoma City, O.K. – Amid state “stay-at-home” orders, Americans across the country are protesting. Rallies across the nation are demanding the reopening of businesses in an attempt to resurge the economy. However, many citizens believe that the government has overstepped its bounds. For the members of the “Alt-Right,” they feel the time is now to take back our country and constitutional rights. Have Democrats paved the way for another Oklahoma City?Â
From “Detriot down to Houston, New York to L.A.,” liberal legislators have plucked away protections from citizens – banning gatherings, church services, and regular business activities. Americans have taken to the streets to make their demands and have their voices heard.
Protesters in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and other states claim to speak for ordinary citizens. Tucked away in these protests are also rightwing groups like Proud Boys, militia groups, religious fundamentalists, and other members of the radical right.Â
Militia groups have longed terrified the Left. For most liberals, militia members are gun-toting, redneck-racists, who hate the government and everything it stands for. Perhaps an accurate description of some rightwing groups. However, the majority of militia members want government shrunken back to its original form – small in size, and reclusive in its restrictive nature.Â
The Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights provide protection. These safeguards are not for the government, but for the People from the government. From generation to generation, administration to administration, American liberties are vanishing. Government (local, state, and federal) continues to grow at a rapid pace. For some, this cannot continue – for some, they have had enough.Â
The COVID Effect
The coronavirus pandemic has damaged crippled our economy and our way of life. For those in government, the facade is that citizens can only recover with the help of legislators. This ideology is dangerous, but so is extremism. For members of the “Alt-Right,” they believe only a forceful and hostile takeover in our country can rid the government plague. For our citizens – this spells danger!Â
A Repeat of OKC?
It has been 25-years since the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On April 19, 1995, American radical rightwing extremists,  Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, took the lives of 168 people, injured more than 680 others, and destroyed one-third of the building. Until the September 11 attacks in 2001, the Oklahoma City bombing was the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the United States. It remains the most fatal incident of domestic terrorism in American history.
What fueled McVeigh and Nichols to enough hatred to kill? By their own words, they expressed anger at the federal government’s handling of the 1992 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) standoff with Randy Weaver at Ruby Ridge as well as the Waco siege. Today, many members of the rightwing groups are expressing anger towards the government and their handling of many domestic and international affairs.Â
From illegal immigration to Affirmative Action, gun control, foreign wars, and nationalized healthcare, many in America believe that the government has overreached beyond the confines of our constitution. The question remains, have Democrats and their pandering policies paved the way to another episode of domestic terror? In short – yes, it now remains, not a matter of if, but when American extremism rears its ugly head and declares war on our democracy.Â
When that occurs, like Bill Clinton in the 1990s, the Democrats will be to blame!Â
