Richmond, V.A. – By now, we all know the battle between those in the gun industry and state “stay-at-home” orders. Now, the Left and the media say increased gun sales are killing more kids. Allow me to debunk these Democratic myths.
Firearm revenue is up 309%, according to a report from Ammo.com. A surge in background checks conducted by the federal government resulted. The FBI said it did 3.7 million background checks for firearm purchases in March, the most recorded in a single month by the bureau, and over 1 million more than March 2019.
What is remarkable about these figures? What is the benefit of people arming themselves, some for the very first time? I looked over a report published in USA Today last month. The details are staggering, and completely debunk the Liberal Fear and Hysteria perpetrated against our country.Â
More Guns, Lower Crime
Crime rates plunged in cities and counties across the U.S. Offenses that range from minor traffic and property crimes to aggravated assaults, robbery, and murder, have all declined. Locations that are prone to violence remain empty.
Now, Liberals out there will have you believe that COVID-19 and state “stay-at-home” orders have reduced police response and enforcement of laws, and combined, have led to fewer arrests. To some extent, that is true. But I’m not referring to speeding citations and drunk stops – I’m referencing home invasions, theft, and other crimes whereby the opportunistic take advantage of unprepared, unattentive people unarmed.Â
Delusional Democrats would have you believe that you are not safe anywhere. From the check-out at your local market to the confines of your home, the coronavirus is going to get you.
Erin Donohue over at CBS News wrote a report on May 8th, entitled “Alarming spike in deadly unintentional shootings by kids as gun sales soar during lockdowns.“Â
In her Liberal-laden account, Donohue states that according to the advocacy group “Everytown for Gun Safety,” deadly unintentional shootings by children increased 43 percent in March and April compared to average gun deaths during the same two months over the last three years. Did you get all that? CBS is stating that the “alarming uptick” coincided with the period that gun sales were surging during coronavirus lockdowns.
The Myth
In traditional, Democrat, gun-hating rhetoric, Donohue adds that gun safety advocates have feared that with schools closed and children experiencing boredom and isolation in quarantine, kids would be at an increased risk of finding unsecured guns in their homes. Those concerns have only increased with historically high gun sales in March and April. Now, they say, the data suggests that their fears are becoming a grim reality.
Through March and April of 2020, unintentional shootings by children under 17 led to 21 deaths, as compared to an average of 15 deaths for the same period between 2017 and 2019. Folks, we are talking about an uptick of 6 additional deaths, while tragic, we are not talking about a national, rampant problem here. The increase of 6 is equivalent to the annual snake death rate in the U.S.
However, members of the Left who love to get their news from mainstream media headlines would have Americans believe those child shootings are a rampant problem. That’s far from the truth.Â
The Reality
Disaster, demise, and peril is the engineering of the Left. Gun advocacy groups have to manifest some retort against Americans wanting to arm themselves in record numbers. In her article, nowhere does Erin Donohue mention the blame that Democrats have here.Â
That’s right, I said it – and my thoughts are the truth! And here’s why. Liberal Governors, with their executive orders, have closed gun ranges and gun safety courses by classifying them as “non-essential.” Democrats know that people are purchasing firearms, again, many for the very first time. Yet, people are not allowed to get the proper training necessary to operate and store these weapons to reduce the chances of accidental shootings.Â
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, infamous for his Fascist movement to disarm members of the Old Dominion State, classified shooting ranges as entertainment. We aren’t talking about going to a movie or ballgame. We are referring to the safe use of a lethal instrument. A gun is used to save lives or take them in the event of self-defense.Â
Gun Abstinence?
Liberals want to create hysteria, but they don’t want to take responsibility for their part. Want an example, listen to this little tidbit. The American Academy of Pediatrics says the safest way to prevent unintentional child shootings is to have no guns at all in the home. Are we saying that abstinence is the most reliable way to avoid harm?
Ok, let’s try that approach. For over the last 60 years, conservatives have preached that abstinence from premarital sex would reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. The Liberal response is that children today don’t respect that opinion. To the Left, sexual abstinence is a traditional, faith-based, fundamental way of thinking that is dangerous. Democrats say that we need to educate our young people to ensure that they know the dangers of sex.”Â
There you have it – educate to reduce risk! Liberals want to educate everyone and everything that is, of course, unless it involves guns. The fact of the matter is, the reason why Democrats do not see a need for gun education is they do not believe that Americans should own guns – abstinence is the only way.Â
