Las Vegas, NV – Last week, Officer Shay Mikalonis from the Las Vegas Police Department was shot in the face. The shooting happened after what the Las Vegas Review-Journal calls “peaceful protests.” The bullet pierced Mikalonis’ spine and lodged in the right side of his face.
The family released an update on Tuesday that said Mikalonis is still on a ventilator. While he is awake and seems to recognize his family, there is little hope he will come off the ventilator. But remember, these were peaceful protests right?
Edgar Samaniego, a 20 year old, has been arrested and charged with shooting Mikalonis. According to the initial reports, he shot Mikalonis and then fired additional shots. Samaniego claims he was trying to scare off protestors from the area and was not aware the police were there.
Two things quickly come to my mind after reading the story about Mikalonis. We hear story after story about “peaceful protests” and how they are fighting for justice. In this story, two issues are presented that must be dealt with.
First, the left continues to argue for the disbanding of the police. This is the perfect example of why the police should exist. At some point, someone is going to attempt to take enforcement upon themselves, like Samaniego attempted to do.
While the event took place, how many innocent bystanders would have died had the law enforcement not been there? After realizing he shot an officer, Samaniego fled and hid the weapon. He knew what he had done was wrong. The story also shares he shot into he crowd because he believed the police were not there. Would he have injured or killed more people had they not been there?
The second issue is the problem with our mainstream media and the reporting on this issue. Across the country they are enthralled with the reporting of the “peaceful protests” and demanding change. While demanding their change, an innocent man lost his life.
Mikalonis is the enemy that the left is attempting to create out of this event, however. They have declared war against anyone that wears a badge. It seems that no one really cares that he is fighting for his life.
According to the Fox News story shared above, Mikalonis may never come off of a ventilator. It’s a tragic story that is born out of senseless acts, provoked by the left. The left has continued to promote and champion these protests, which continue to disrupt and destroy lives. Defunding and eliminating the police will never solve the problems in the United States.
It seems that the left is more interested in placing value on lives that can push agenda’s and social causes. The truth is that every single life matters. Each and every life that has ever existed, it matters. Regardless of skin color, gender, occupation, or any other identifier, a life matters and should not be ignored because it cannot push an agenda.
