Even some Democrats are scared of the $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill

Congress, Democrat defectors, HEROES act

Washington, DC – Democrats recently rolled out their plans for a $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill. The bill is full of a wish list items for Democrats. Now, it seems that all the Democrats may not be on board with the bill.

Fox News is reporting that several key Democrats in swing districts are not interested in the plan. Many of these Democrats intend to vote no on the plan when it is presented for a vote.

Many of these Democrats called the bill a partisan bill that is going nowhere. Others spoke out and said that it did not go far enough in securing things such as healthcare for American citizens. One Republican representative, Peter King of New York, plans to vote in favor of the act.

Some interesting defections are that of the freshmen “squad” representatives. All four of these freshmen representatives voted no on a procedural move in an attempt to block the bill.

AOC spoke out and said that the bill falls far short on what is needed to help the American people. While wearing her Medicare for All mask, she claims that the bill should be bolder and go much farther than is proposed. She said that since this is a starting offer, it should contain so much more. I suppose 1,815 pages was not quite enough.

Others raised concerns about the lack of bipartisan work on the bill. They believe the bill should have been drafted with Republican input in an attempt to find a bill that everyone could agree on.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that the bill is dead on arrival in the Senate. With this stance, Congress is unlikely to reach any agreement on more coronavirus aid prior to the Memorial Day recess.
